About Greenlands
Greenlands is a historic Ashland Virginia estate and farm, begun in the 1790's and now featuring a century-old 12-bedroom brick mansion. It is situated on 40 rolling acres of gardens, grand trees, meadows and horse pastures. From the moment you turn into the long tree-lined driveway, you realize you have entered a place of beauty and serenity.
Greenlands is currently being extensively restored by Tom and Gretchen Toles, who have converted the heating and cooling system to green energy, including both solar and geothermal. Their plan is to create a special oasis for thought, art, ecology and wellness. The grounds feature gardens planned and under restoration, walking trails and an elegant swimming pool.
Tom Toles is a Pulitzer prizewinning artist, writer and musician. Gretchen Toles is a veteran of Frederick Law Olmsted parks preservation efforts and an avid gardener.
